Common questions and troubleshooting tips.
Once you download Glimpsy on your iPhone, it should automatically install on your paired Apple Watch. If the app does not appear on your watch:
In rare cases, Glimpsy may not appear in the complication picker even after the app is installed. Reboot your Apple Watch — Glimpsy should show up afterwards.
Note: A few Apple-specific complication slots only allow Apple-owned complications. For those slots you typically see just 2–3 choices and no third-party apps — including Glimpsy.
While watchOS usually handles updates automatically, it can sometimes take several days to trigger. To force an immediate update: Open the App Store on your Apple Watch, scroll all the way to the bottom and tap Account, then tap Updates. If an update for Glimpsy is available, you can initiate it manually there.
The iPhone companion app has been part of Glimpsy since version 2. Your watch app may already be up to date, but if you bought when Glimpsy was watch-only, the iPhone app sometimes doesn't appear in your purchase history. To get the iOS app, follow these steps:
We recommend completing your purchase within the iPhone Companion App. The buying process on iPhone is much more robust and provides immediate feedback and a clean product page.
Once purchased on your iPhone, the license will automatically sync to your Apple Watch.
Watch-only purchases can sometimes be finicky due to how Apple handles independent watch apps. This is exactly why we introduced the iPhone companion app.
Recommended Solution: Open Glimpsy on your paired iPhone and complete the purchase there. It uses the same Apple ID and will unlock the app on your watch instantly.
If sync between watch and phone seems broken: If you've purchased on iPhone but the watch doesn't reflect it, or if you still prefer to buy on the watch and it fails, it usually indicates a sync issue between your devices. In this case, we recommend a "Watch & Phone Resync": unpair your watch (creating a backup), pair it again, and restore from that backup.
Glimpsy has no subscription. The trial period is completely free. If Glimpsy isn't for you, simply delete the app — no charges will apply.
The battery indicator cannot be added to your existing complications. You need to assign a Glimpsy complication to that slot instead. Any Glimpsy style can be configured to show the date and add the battery when Smart Visibility says it's needed — pick a starting style in the complication picker, then fine-tune it in the Style Editor.
Some watch faces have fixed background circles or borders for their complications. When "Smart Visibility" hides the battery icon, this background area remains visible, leaving an empty spot.
For these specific faces, configure your Glimpsy style so the slot stays filled when the battery is hidden — for example with a combined Date & Battery layout, an Amulet photo, or an Insignia. Alternatively, disable Smart Visibility.
Each complication has its own Smart Visibility settings. On the Amulet where you don't want a battery indicator, turn Smart Visibility on and set the threshold to 0%. That effectively keeps the battery hidden on that complication at all times.
Amulet is available for circular complications in battery mode — not in a combined date layout. In the Style Editor, switch the style to battery mode and turn off both "Percentage" and "Insignia" to enable the Amulet photo option.
Insignia size follows the battery indicator size. In the Style Editor, choose a different Battery size — the Insignia will scale accordingly.
The width of the gauge bar can be changed by setting the Battery size parameter.
Most watch faces are monochrome by default and tint all widgets to match the face's color scheme.
However, some faces (like Infograph) support full color, and others (like Meridian) have a "Multicolor" option in their settings. If the watch face allows it, Glimpsy will display the battery status in Green (Good), Yellow (Low < 20%), or Red (Critical < 10%).
In the Style Editor (available on both watch and iPhone), you can choose custom colors for your date complications. However, two constraints apply:
You're right to notice it — but this is an Apple design decision, not a Glimpsy bug. Complications must use the layout Apple provides for each slot. Corner placements often pair a large date field with a smaller detail below, and apps cannot change that.
It still works well for short text — for example, an abbreviated day and date.
If the Glimpsy app is not opened on the watch, settings can take up to 30 minutes to be synced to the watch due to system limitations.
To sync immediately: Simply open the Glimpsy app on your Apple Watch. If settings are still not synced, it usually indicates a communication issue between your devices, and we recommend a "Watch & Phone Resync" (unpair/repair).
This can happen if the system cache for the Always-On Display gets "stuck". To fix this, try toggling the AOD settings: Go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Always On > Show Complication Data. Toggle this setting off and on, specifically for Glimpsy if listed, and then restart your Apple Watch.
This is a known limitation of how the iPhone Watch app renders previews for some Apple Watch complications (especially for styles with curved text). Battery indicators or layout details may be missing there.
For styling, rely on the live preview in Glimpsy's Style Editor on iPhone instead — it shows how your complication will actually look.
When assigning a slot: We still recommend selecting Glimpsy complications directly on your Apple Watch (long-press your watch face > Edit > Complications). That picker uses the watch itself to render the complication.
Glimpsy is already prepared to perform navigation to the calendar. However, as of today, watchOS 26 does not allow jumping to anything other than Glimpsy's own configuration app.
A viable workaround: Pin the calendar on top of the Smart Stack. Then you just need to swipe up on the watch to directly see upcoming events. With just another tap, you can hop to all other calendar views.
To see the system battery status, simply press the Side Button (under the Digital Crown) to open the Control Center. The current battery percentage is displayed there by default.
Complications can only launch their own app — in this case, Glimpsy. But you can still open the Battery app easily: press the Side Button, then tap the battery percentage in Control Center. From there you can enable Low Power Mode — it's just one extra press of the Side Button.
To preserve battery life, Apple limits how often apps can update complications. Additionally, watchOS only provides battery data to 3rd-party apps in 5% increments.
Glimpsy uses a smart algorithm to learn your watch's drain rate and predicts the value between these updates. While this can sometimes result in a small deviation (2-3%), it usually becomes very precise over time.
Tip: To read the exact battery level at any time, press the Side Button to open Control Center.
Discharging is slow and predictable, but charging is very fast (0 to 100% in ~1 hour). Since complications only update every 15–30 minutes, Glimpsy might lag behind the actual charge level while the watch is on the charger.
Don't worry—within a few minutes of taking the watch off the charger, Glimpsy will sync up and display the correct value again.
Tip: To read the exact battery level at any time, press the Side Button to open Control Center.
No. Glimpsy is highly optimized and follows Apple's strict recommendations for complications. It uses negligible computation power, so you will not notice any additional battery consumption.
